California
With sites in the Bay Area and just outside of LA we are able to offer field trips to schools in a broad area, each site highlighting different ecosystems.
Mentone
In the Mountains
NCI’s Mountain site is in the San Bernardino Mountains at Mentone, and conveniently located about an hour and a half outside of LA and under two hours from San Diego. Situated on 160 acres of mountainous terrain, students will discover bald eagles, peregrine falcons, endangered plants and bighorn sheep as they explore the myriad of trails on site. Just by the Mountain Home Creek and Skinner Creek, NCI Mentone offers mountain hiking trails, vistas, creek exploration, Sam’s
Peak and full access to the spectacular waterfall.
Pescadero
Close to Santa Cruz
Nestled among giant, ancient Redwoods, Tan Oak, California Live Oaks, Madrones and Douglas Fir Trees in the Santa Cruz Mountains, sits NCI Pescadero. Situated on 165 acres of mountainous terrain, only 15 minutes away from the Pacific Ocean, students will discover California Quails, Banana Slugs, Chickadees and Woodpeckers as they explore the myriad of trails on-site or in Memorial Park. The Ocean, Butano Creek, Pescadero Creek and the Marsh are accessible by a short bus ride with wider exploration through day-long activities. NCI Pescadero offers both a marine and mountain environment ready to be explored by curious minds. Come join us!
